Never thought of visiting Sweden? Here are just a few of the many reasons why we think you’d love it!

Good Prices (No really ... it's true)!

Scandinavia has a reputation of being one of the most expensive destinations in Europe - which in most cases, it is!  However, Sweden is by far the cheapest Scandinavian destination to visit, and generally prices are comparable to those in most other popular European destinations.  Gone are the days when a beer in this country would cost a weeks wage though luckily, it is this misconception that can be accredited to keeping away the holidaying hordes and allowing the country to retainin it's Scandinavian charms.   What's more, like the Brits, the Swedish have held onto their currency (the Krona) meaning that it is a refreshingly euro free zone in which you get more for your money.

Average prices in Sweden
Bottle of export beer - 42 to 52 SEK (£3.65 to £4.52)
Main course evening meal in a mid range restaurant - 170 - 250 SEK (£14.78 - £21.73)
Weekday Lunch - 80 SEK (£6.95)
Entrance to attractions - 70 to 110 SEK (£6.08 - £9.56)

The above prices are an average of what you could expect to pay for the items in Sweden and differ greatly depending where you choose to dine and visit. As with all cities, there is a mixture of the more extravagant options available in addition to the less expensive establishments which may appeal to the more frugal traveller.

Although wine is still a little costly when purchased in restaurants, you are able to get great prices on bottles sold in the alcohol stores in the country (know as the Systembolaget).

Great deals can also be found on clothes and other items which will surprise even the most experienced of bargin hunters - This is after all the country that bought us  the notoriously great value for money establishments of IKEA and H&M!

Variety of Landscapes

One of the joys of visiting Sweden is the wide variety of activities and landscapes which are available within such close proximity.  City centres, countryside spaces, lakes and forests are all within a surprisingly close proximity .  Ultimately you can pack more into your holiday without wasting time on planes, trains or busses.

Proximity to the UK

The proximity of Sweden to the UK offers another great advantage to visitors.  Depending on your departure airport the flight time is approximately two and a half hours in total.  This makes Sweden a perfect destination for a few days get away break or a long relaxing weekend.  The short flight time is especially valued by those clients who find it particularly uncomfortable to travel on planes for long periods of time.

Relaxed Tourism Industry

Sweden is the perfect destination to escape the hordes of tourists found in many of the worlds countries today. Luckily for us, Sweden is often overlooked as a holiday destination by many people and although the Swedish cities are usually buzzing with activity, on the whole you will be left in peace to indulge yourself in the charms of the country as an individual.

Environmental Awareness

Sweden has long been a leader in the promotion of environment issues.  Recycling in the home has been second nature for years and they are quick to accept environmentally superior products into the home and the workplace.  These attitudes can only be commended in the present day environmental situation and are very attractive to people wishing to holiday in an environmentally responsible country.

Communication

Despite the ramblings of the Swedish chef on the much loved ‘Muppet’s show’, the majority of Swedes have a fantastic command of the English language and love the opportunity to practise their English conversation skills on a ‘native’.  Not only does this provide a great comfort level when travelling in Sweden but also gives the opportunity to really integrate with the people of the country who are, on the whole, truly delightful.

Relaxation

The Swedes generally enjoy a refreshingly equal work to life balance and greatly value quality time spent with family and friends.  Combined with the beauty of the natural surroundings this relaxed attitude has a tendency to transcend to those visiting the area.  When arriving at the airport and travelling to your destination you will already start to feel the stress and strain of everyday life seeping away as you survey the beautiful nature and waterfront images you pass along the way.

Lack of summer crowds

Amazingly, the summer months in Stockholm are considered the low season as far as prices and crowds are concerned.  Most corporate offices close for the summer and where many European cities become crowded, hot and costly in July and August, Stockholm is a comparable paradise!  For those eager to spend more than a couple of days in the country, this is definitely a recommended time to do so.

Magnificant Swedish Seasons

Sweden experiences the best of all seasons.  Explosive springs, beautiful warm long summer days, colourful autumn leaves and crisp winters days complete with blue skies and fresh snow (yes snow, it’s the white stuff we used to experience in the UK many moons ago)!  No matter what time of year you wish to take a break from things and get away there is always incredible scenery and things to do here in the country.  Whether you plan holidays months in advance or are more impulsive and prefer travelling as and when the mood strikes you, you will never be disappointed with what the country has to offer, whatever month of the year.
